Much like Joe Cecconi, Dennis Gilbert has seen his stock rise quite rapidly the last two seasons. After playing with High School hockey in Buffalo at St. Joe’s in 2012-2013, Gilbert made the jump to the OJHL with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres for the 2013-2014 season and totaled 4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points in an injury shortened season. Following his year with the Junior Sabres, Gilbert was drafted in the 7th Round 110th overall by the Chicago Steel in the USHL Entry Draft and subsequently made the jump and the move to Chicago this season. Much like Cecconi a year previous, Gilbert’s standout play in the USHL has caught the eye of quite a few coaches and scouts. Gilbert was named to the USHL Top Prospects game along with Cecconi and also found himself a future playing NCAA Division I hockey after committing to play for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish beginning with the 2015-2016 season. Currently, NHL Central Scouting has Gilbert ranked just two spots behind Cecconi as the 72nd best North American prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft making him a likely selection this June as well.
