Collin Rutherford Traded to Tri City

Collin Rutherford made an impression during training camp with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Enough of an impression to be kept in Cedar Rapids when the season began. Unfortunately for the young forward from Tonawanda, NY, the RoughRiders had a logjam at forward and he only found himself suiting up for one game, going pointless. Seeing an opportunity to add a talented forward, the Tri City Storm sent forward Sam Sternschein to Cedar Rapids in exchange for Rutherford.

At 5’8″ & 165 lbs Rutherford is on the smaller side for a forward in the USHL but at only 17 years old, already possesses the talent to compete at the USHL level. After a standout 2013-2014 season with the Buffalo Jr Sabres U16 where he scored 21 goals & 23 assists for 44 points in 36 games, Rutherford was named as an assistant captain for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres U18 program last season and even managed to get called up for a two game stint with the OJHL Jr. Sabres.

This past summer Collin was a participant in the USA Hockey Select 17 Camp that took place just 15 minutes down the road from his hometown at the Pepsi Center in Amherst, NY. Following the Select 17 camp, Rutherford committed to play NCAA Division I Hockey at the Ivy League school Dartmouth College and will be joining the Big Green beginning with the 2017-2018 season.
