WNY Hockey Prospects

Dugan & Loughran Leading USHL Scorers

After the way Jack Dugan and Griffin Loughran have started their USHL seasons, you might just see a few extra scouts in the stands of AAA games across Western New York over the next few months. You might also see a number of those scouts on making the drive down I-90 from Youngstown, OH.

Dugan, a Rochester product, and Loughran, a native of Orchard Park, are currently tied with a handful of players for the USHL scoring lead at 10 points and have looked like USHL veterans even though both are in their first full season in the league. Both players were also USHL Entry Draft selections of the Youngstown Phantoms but seemingly were not part of the team’s long-term plans.

Now to be fair, hindsight is always 20/20. It is much too easy to sit back and criticize decisions that you were not responsible for making, especially when it comes to scouting amateur hockey prospects. But, with the pipeline & scouting presence Youngstown has developed in Western New York over the last five years or so, it’s certainly surprising that they let both Loughran and Dugan wind up on other USHL rosters.
